The global number of COVID infections has exceeded 300 million. According to records, it took more than a year to reach the top 100 million, and while it took just five months to add the third 100 million, the world is facing a highly contagious variant of omicron.

Medical professionals and patients in London, England, were hit by the omicron variant, which led the government to deploy 200 military personnel, including 40 doctors, to hospitals in the city.

Critics of the country’s National Health Service say the rise in the omicron shows the incompetence of Britain’s medical system.

The governor of the state of West Virginia said on Thursday that the omicron variant has sought permission from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to administer a fourth dose of COVID vaccine to people 50 years of age and older in his home state.

The Ministry of Health of India reported 117,100 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday morning (7/1).

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that the new variant of the coronavirus recently detected in France is nothing to worry about at the moment.

Abdi Mahmud, WHO’s COVID-19 incident manager, told reporters in Geneva earlier this week that while the new variant, called IHU, is “under our control”, it remains confined to Marseille and has not been identified as a “worrying variant”. by the UN health agency. [lt/ab]
