Flight cancellations that disrupt holiday travel will continue until Monday, 27/12.

Staff claiming to be sick from COVID-19 have underwhelmed airlines in recent days.

Airline tracking app FlightAware said airlines have canceled more than 4,000 flights to or from the Americas since Friday (12/24) and more than 1,000 cancellations had occurred in the Americas as of Monday (12/27).

Delta, United, JetBlue and American said COVID-19 was causing staffing problems. European and Australian airlines also canceled holiday flights because staff were sick.

Other factors, such as the weather, also play a role.

Flight delays and cancellations due to staff shortages have become commonplace this year. [ka/ab]
